Graphics 1 Assignment

This page features images created using Gimp 2.10.8 for the two part graphics 1 assignment.

Part A required creation of  a single image editor file (Gimp) composed of six layers. Three of those layers must include text of the students first name with various manipulations to the text in two of the three layers. The other three layers followed the same formula, but with the students last name.

Part B required manipulation of an image, either personal or found on the internet,  in an image editor. The image must be no larger than 300 X 300 pixels. The produced image editor file must contain 3 layers, one the original image and two layers where the image was manipulated in some fashion.

Below are the images that I created for my graphics 1 assignment.

Part A - Name Graphic

For Part A, I started by creating a text block in Gimp with my last name on a blank canvas and then cropped down the canvas to make a nice frame around the text. This formed the first layer and the base for all other layers. I then duplicated that layer and used the fuzzy select tool to just select the letters. Once selected, I then used the gradient tool and created a purple to white gradient across the text. I then went back and duplicated the first layer and changed the font to italics. For my first name, I duplicated the first layer, deleted my last name and entered my first name and renamed the layer. I duplicate my first name layer twice, once changing it to a blue color font and the other time changing the opacity of the layer to 50 percent.

Part B - Image Edit

For Part B, I started by importing in an image of a snowflake I found on the internet. I resized it to 300 X 300 pixels. I then duplicated the layer twice. On one layer, I used the waterpixels tool, adjusted the superpixel size to 8 and gave the snowflake a watercolor painting look. On the other layer, I used the saturation tool and took the color saturation to 0 to turn the snowflake image to black and white.
