Graphics 3 Assignment

For the logo that I created for my Graphics 3 assignment, I gained my inspiration form my daughter. Ever since she was 3 years old, she always referred to "Vanilla Wafers" as "Vanilla Flavors" and I thought it would be great to come up with a logo for one of her favorite treats.

Using Photoshop CS6,  I picked a font that reminded me of her and got the idea to curve the font over a cup of milk and dropping Vanilla Flavors in to the cup. To create the cup, I made a purple rectangle and a black ellipse, placed the ellipse over the rectangle and erased the excess to form the cup. I then made a smaller white ellipse and set it inside the black ellipse to fill the cup with milk. Next I used a series of brown ellipse with a texture on them to create the vanilla wafers. Finally, I used a set of ellipse to add a puppy dog face to the cup.

To achieve the Grayscale images, I created an adjustment layer and used the black and white filter with its default settings. Likewise with he Black and White Image, I created another adjustment layer and used the Black and White filter tool, only this time adjusting the levels to the extremes to only allow black and white colors to show.

I saved each file as .jpgs, first the full color image, then I toggled the Grayscale layer on, saved it as a .jpg and repeated with the Black and White layer. I then repeated the process using the Save for Web function, adjusting the output to 25 percent of the Original 1800X1800 pixel images at 300dpi which produced images of 450X450 pixels at 96dpi.

To achieve the 3D Vanilla Flavors in the logo, I created 20 duplicate copies of the wafer, each one pixel o the right of the last. I then merged those 20 layers together and added a color gradient across that merged layer. I then placed that layer directly below the original wafer layer. This gives the 3d effect to the Vanilla Flavors.
